Quick update on book interviews...

Hi all. Beyond the Baldness has been on the shelves for a few weeks now and I've done a few interviews about it already. Over the next few days I'll be on the following programmes:
Thursday 21st: Kyknet's live talk show FLITS at 9.30pm
Friday 22nd: CNBC's "On the Couch" with David Shapiro
Monday 25th: Gareth Cliff Breakfast Show 8am

Thanks to everyone that has given me feedback on the book. I appreciate you taking the time to read it! Some have even sent in pics of them with the book!

Thanks Lyns!

In other news, I've been a little quiet on Twitter lately, but I think that goes for a lot of other people too. The venomous tweets are out of control and I refuse to subject myself to hate speech. Yesterday I got to have a quick conversation with the leader of the DA, Mmusi Maimane.

We happened to bump into each other at an office park and spent a few minutes chatting about the huge war of words happening in South Africa regarding racism. In fact, just an hour before we chatted he had addressed the nation on the very subject. Our few minutes of conversation was a breath of fresh air, having a constructive conversation about the current issues without hidden agendas or vitriolic spewing. He's an inspiring man and it was a true honour to shake the hand of South Africa's future leader.

That's my quick news update for now. Chat again soon!!

My book is out soon. Here is the trailer...

I literally mean a "trailer"!  When I was growing up in England, I lived in a trailer park...

My autobiography is almost finished! The manuscript has been written and edited. The cover has been designed and the blurb at the back has been put together. Yesterday I was selecting photographs to go in the middle. "Beyond the Baldness" on shelves in time for Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, it's hard to believe that it's just 2 months away. My girls are already asking about when they are getting a new video from Father Christmas. Each year "he sends them one". Actually, it's from a great website called www.portablenorthpole.com. The site goes ready to produce videos sometime in November and they do a fantastic job of it. Here is Alyssa's from last year:

It's well worth leaving your email address on their website and they'll let you know when their 2015 Christmas portal is up and running!

When it comes to Christmas gifts, this may be one worth considering... a NutriBullet. I received one yesterday and am giving it a test for a few days to evaluate it's practicality and usefulness. What I do like about it already, compared to normal juicers, this one retains all the pulp and fibre that is needed. I'll write a blog about it in a few days.

MY QUICK REVIEW: The new tiny Macbook

I am a Macbook lover and got the new tiny 12 inch Macbook a few days ago. Ironically it is 2cm narrower than the 11 inch Macbook Air

It is amazingly light and for the first time I don't even notice I'm lugging a computer around with me!

I think many of us thought the iPad was revolutionary in terms of making your office mobile, but it never worked for me when it came to documents and having all my files on hand. The iPad is now relegated to my girls games. But this new Macbook has literally changed the way I work. I don't have to dash back to the office anymore to get some paperwork done. Using Dropbox, all my files are on both my office Macbook Pro and this tiny Macbook! It's not designed for high processing power and I'll always use my bigger laptop in my studio, but for being on the go this new 12 inch Macbook is brilliant.

Well done Apple!!

Onto other news. I'm so excited about my latest project. After 4 months of writing, I have just finished writing my book called Beyond the Baldness!

It's not a scandalous, but rather a (hopefully) inspirational autobiography for anyone that wants to achieve their goals in life, whether it be in personal or work related ambitions. I talk about my journey with cancer and how it pushed me to follow my dream of being on radio. I also cover the various television shows I've done with some behind-the-scenes stuff and also focus a lot on my personal experiences of being a Dad to to young girls.

Here's a snippet...

It now sits with editors for about 3 months before going to print and being published by about October.

Beyond the Baldness - Fighting Back

About 2 months ago a publisher got in touch with me and asked to meet for a cup of coffee. She knew my story of overcoming cancer and heart disease and felt it would make for an interesting motivational book.

The idea quickly expanded to a full autobiography. My question to her was "Who would want to read my story?". To my surprise, she feels quite a few people.

This is no Oscar Pistorius book and probably won't land up on the Exclusive Books top 10 list.  Sure, I had an upbringing with a few challenges, but who hasn't. I grew up in a trailer (not a Venter trailer, but one of those Kansas Tornado types.

When trying to get onto radio I got turned down by so many stations, even Pick n Pay Hyper turned me down as an in-store announcer.

I'm now probably about a third way through writing the book and onto the hardest part. When I turned 22 my mum died and I became an instant dad to my 8 year old brother. Living in a 1 bedroomed flat in Hillbrow, the book is a story of survival, overcoming odds, and my anecdotal journey into radio as well as hosting some of the biggest TV shows in SA.

The book is a personal journey that will hopefully inspire anyone reading it to not just follow their dreams, but chase them.

"Beyond the Baldness - Fighting Back" is due out in October 2015.
